Clubs and Activities
FNHS: French National Honor Society I have taken French as an elective since my freshman year and last year I joined the National French Honors Society Club. Unfortunately, Doumbia left this year which limits me on doing a portion of my exit interview and receiving the seal of approval. However I am glad there is still an Honors club which means on graduation day I will walk with a cord showing that I am a member of FNHS. I am happy that I made the decision to stay in the class even when they told me it would be hard because now I am given the honor and privilege of saying I know a foreign language. Cheerleading I have been a cheerleader since my freshman year and since my first performance I have loved doing what I do. It is now, finally, my senior year and I am very proud of how far I have come in only four years. Last year I was chosen by my coaches to be a co-captain and now this year I was chosen by my other squad members as a captain; being able to have those titles assures me that what I am doing is paying off. I have now gone to cheer camp twice and both were very good experiences. My junior year I was chosen to join the All American Team; that team is for the best cheerleaders around the country to perform at big events in many different places so that was a big accomplishment. This year I was nominated again but unfortunately the award was not given to any cheerleader from any school at the camp. My favorite part of cheer is doing Mini Cheer Camp because I get to spend time with kids and help interest them to continue cheering. I plan on continuing to cheer as long as I can and someday hope to have the chance to coach a team myself. Fashion Club The first club I joined was Fashion Club my freshman year. I joined because it seemed interesting and although fashion has nothing to do with my future it was a good experience. We only had one big fashion show throughout my freshman year but it was interesting watching the seniors put on something like that. The club is no longer around, it ended last year since the advisor left. I was looking forward to putting on the fashion show this year but although I will not be able to I am glad I was in the club my first two years here. ASL: American Sign Language Club I was in this club my Junior year and it was a really nice experience because I was able to learn some phrases in sign language. This club has impacted me because it made me very interested in sign language and ever since I learned my first word I have been wanting to learn the entire language. Since I plan on becoming a teacher the chances of me working with a deaf learner are high so next year I plan on learning it; that will allow me to really connect to any future learners and create a bond with them. This year however I will not be in the club since I already missed the maximum amount of meetings that can be missed. Even though I was only in this club for one year it is very memorable. Youth Cheerleading Coach The most enjoyable activity I have done has been coaching a group of younger cheerleaders. I started coaching towards the end of my junior year and just recently finished the season in November. This has given me the chance to work with children more and make cheerleading a good experience for them. The girls varied from ages 5-9 so the age differences did make it difficult at times. I got lucky with the girls I coached because they were very good and willing to learn every practice; they made me very proud. Although I will not be able to coach them next year, since I will not live here anymore, I am sure that they are going to continue improving and becoming better. |
ASB: Associated Student Body I have been an active member in ASB since my freshman year. Last year I was not a part of the leadership class because I was enrolled in an AP class during that period but I did still participate when I could. With ASB I have gained leadership & communication skills that have helped me stay involved with my school. Our club organizes almost all school activities including school rallies, Adopt a Star, two Blood Drives per year, and many more. I have put in many hours both during and out of school into ASB so I believe I have helped make our school a better place. Senior year has been no different for me; being in the leadership class has again kept me involved with all school events. Softball I have been playing softball since I was in 6th grade but I have never found it to be something I'm passionate about. In high school I have played my freshman and sophomore year on JV, mainly as a runner since I have speed not much skill in the sport. I did not play last year and I will not be trying out this year either because being on a Varsity team would require much more dedication to the sport and I would rather spend that time on my school work. REAP Foundation I was enrolled in the REAP program my freshman year because I qualified and need the extra help. Due to my parents not being able to attend the meetings I was told I was no longer in the program at the end of my sophomore year. Although I continued to receive level fours for my work I never bothered to make sure my life skills grade matched. Then my senior year I was invited once again into the program with a new advisor. However because I had not gotten the previous fours I will not be able to reach the required amount to receive my earned money. Leaving the program was upsetting but it has helped me become more responsible. It has also taught me not to rely on others for my future which is something I really needed to learn in order to be prepared for college next year. Class of 2016 Since my freshman year I have been involved with any activities regarding my class. This includes things such as helping run food booths, set up floats on homecoming, and planning prom. I have attended meetings in order to remain informed and have the opportunity to see in what ways I can help. Cross Age Tutoring For the last semester of the careers in education class we went to elementary schools and helped tutor kids in different grade levels. At the beginning I was a pre-school tutor so a lot of my work was helping them practice their words and numbers. Then I changed into a first grade class which I enjoyed better since I was able to work with the kids more. I feel like I actually helped the learners and it really helped me be sure that I want to be a teacher. |
